Jailed journalist Ýsmail Yýldýz object to military service

A group of conscientious objectors and anti-militarists in Turkey held a press conference to release the conscientious objection declaration of journalist Ýsmail Yýldýz who was put in prison within the scope of so-called “KCK” (Kurdish Communities Union) operation.

Dersim paper editor and ANF journalist Ýsmail Yýldýz was arrested and put in Kocaeli F-Type Prison No 1 on 20 December 2011 together with over 30 other journalists.

In his conscientious objection declaration, Yýldýz stated that he as a theatre actor, a journalist, a Kurdish citizen, an anarchist and an antiwar person refused to be a member of killing machine armies. He said he wasn’t different from any stone, tree or a bird in the nature.

Here is the full text of journalist Ýsmail Yýldýz’s conscientious objection declaration;

“Thousands of poor and deprived people are dying every day as a result of the policies of capitalist production centres on this planet that have turned our world to a field full of mines. From Colombia to Palestine, from Latin America to Kurdistan, from Afghanistan to Tamil territory, all places on the world have been turned into human slaughter houses by the attitude of the imperialist block which offers us, ‘the measles’, killing, which is the single argument they hold on tight to, to hold the world in the orbit of their own, as the single right. The militarist domination, which more and more thickens the grave stone on us every passing day through the chemical and biological weapons they produce, turns each frame of our lives into a mess with the digital eyes they have placed in all areas of our lives.

They have turned the world into a mass grave by challenging all rules of the universe and starting wars every day with the mounted troops they have and the arms with which they are breathing down our neck.

The dominant powers which force poor and deprived people to kill each other in the armies that they form with fine adjustments of capitalism have also staged one of the most gruesome examples of the cruelty they created in the Kurdistan territory.

They have demolished all areas of humanity and freedom by laying dynamites at the bottom of humanity by means of their sex discrimination policies. Besides destroying us, ‘the cursed’, with their arms, they, with a war addiction, have also destroyed our nature, burnt forests down and grudged us water which is the most basic right.

For all these reasons, what we should do is to refuse to be a pawn in this dirty chess game, to object to be a part of wars and to disagree to point a gun at each other.

Like many others, I have also been held under arrest on the basis of evidences lacking in reason, conscience, fairness and right. The Kocaeli F-Type Prison No 1 is one of the tens of thousands prisons on the world, it is a black hole where we, thousands of people, are deprived of our families, friends and dreams of freedom.

I, as a theatre actor, a journalist, a Kurdistan citizen, an anarchist and an antiwar person, as an anathema in short, refuse to be a member of one of the armies that have turned into killing machines.

As purely and simply a small fragment, knowing that I am not different from any stone, tree or a bird in the nature, I avail myself of the right given to me by the universe and I refuse to be a soldier.

Because of my trust and respect for the universe, human being and peace, I object to killing and to war which will never have a place in the picture of freedom.

My persistence in refusing to be a soldier of any state, to be the finger on any trigger and to be an aide of any leader, president, king, commander and authority will continue both inside and outside the prison.

My dogma and way of thinking and freedom description doesn’t consist of being an arm in an army which bases on killing, sexual virility and being a Turk and a Muslim.

On the other hand, with the thought that none of the sacred fetishes will be more valuable to see and feel the breath, voice and crawling of my daughter to be born soon, I refuse to join the army as I see the feeding bottle in her hand more sacred and basic than all weapons in the world and the orders of their owners.

Refusing to kill and defending to live which is among the basic requirements of being a human, I declare my conscientious objection and will take my place to the front stage against war.

As a conscientious objector, I announce that I will lead the rest of my life, as I have done so far, in international solidarity and in an anti-capitalist and anti-militarist environment.

Long live the world without borders, exploitation, armies and domination!

Long live the internationalist solidarity of the oppressed peoples!”
