Intensified isolation of Özgür Gündem newspaper Chief Editor Zana Bilir Kaya and editor İnan Kızılkaya in Silivri No 9 Prison continues.

Intensified isolation of Özgür Gündem Newspaper Chief Editor Zana Bilir Kaya and editor İnan Kızılkaya in Silivri No 9 Prison continues. Prison administration says that "It is forbidden to bring books into the prison" and prevents the journalists arrested on August 22 from receiving the books that their families bring to them. The journalists are only allowed to read Hürriyet newspaper, and their request for receiving "Cumhuriyet, Evrensel and Birgün dailies" was rejected by the administration.

In addition to the ban on newspapers, magazines and books, there is no change regarding the ban on radio and TV.

Musa Kaya met with his brother today in Silivri Prison and said, "There is no change in the condition of my brother Zana and İnan Kızılkaya. Intensified isolation continues. They expect the support of the public."

FORCED TO STRIP DOWN AS HE GOT SEARCHED BEFORE THE HEARING

During the hearing that took place a few days ago, İnan Kızılkaya had highlighted the conditions of the intensified isolation he and Zana Bilir Kaya had been experiencing over the past month. Kızılkaya had noted that he was forced to strip down as he got searched before the hearing, and called for the public’s sensitivity in order to bring an end to the intensified isolation.

Journalists İnan Kızılkaya and Zana Bilir Kaya had been detained during a police raid on the Özgür Gündem newspaper in Taksim on August 16, and were arrested on August 22 after 6 days of detainment.
