The monthly review for 7 journalists who were sent to prison on 21 December while trying to protest the killing of journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin by a Turkish drone while they were following developments in Northern and Eastern Syria, took place on Tuesday.
The lawyers of journalists Gülistan Dursun, Hayri Tunç, Yeni Yaşam newspaper’s Enes Sezgin, Osman Akın, Can Papila, Etkin News Agency (ETHA) reporter Pınar Gayıp, and Mücadele Birliği journalist Serpil Ünal, who were all arrested on charges of “making propaganda for an illegal organization” and “opposing Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations”, attended the detention review.
The lawyers said that no action had been taken in the file for a month and that their clients were still in prison despite this. They added that their freedom of expression, freedom of the press, and the rights to assembly and marches had been violated.
