48 journalists taken to Istanbul Court
48 press members who were taken into custody on 20 December in the context of the so called Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) operation have been taken to the Istanbul Court in Beþiktaþ 72 hours later.
The raids on 20 December, performed upon the instruction of Istanbul 12th High Criminal Court, targeted DÝHA News Agency, ANF, Özgür Gündem daily paper, Etik Agency, Gün Matbaasý, Demokratik Modernite Magazine, Bir Gün and Fýrat Distribution.
Following the interrogation at Istanbul Security Directorate where 20 journalists used the right to remain silent, all journalists were taken to the Forensic Medicine Institution in Yenibosna towards morning to undergo a medical examination.
Following the examinations here, 48 journalists were taken to the court at around 05.00 o’clock this morning. They chanted the slogan “Free press cannot be silenced”. Journalists will undergo prosecution interrogation here.
