Nadire Mater, Yıldırım Türker, Tuğrul Eryılmaz and Faruk Balıkçı have been summoned to court for having participated in the ‘Chief Editor on Watch’ campaign organized for supporting Özgür Gündem, and will testify on June 27 in Istanbul.
In the face of prosecutions and investigations, Özgür Gündem newspaper had launched the ‘Chief Editor on Watch’ campaign on May 3. Many journalists and human rights defenders have been taking turns in being the newspaper’s Chief Editor.
Journalists Without Borders Turkey representative Erol Önderoğlu, Turkey Human Rights Foundation (THİV) President Şebnem Korur Fincancı, and journalist-author Ahmet Nesin were arrested on June 20 and accused of ‘propagating for a terrorist organization.’
