Women’s Unit of Internal Security Forces launches operation against ISIS in Roj Camp

The Women’s Unit of Internal Security Forces launched a comprehensive security operation in Roj Camp.

The Women’s Unit of Internal Security Forces launched a comprehensive security operation in Roj Camp to search the camp and pursue sleeper cells of ISIS mercenaries and their collaborators.

A press statement was made in Dêrik before the launch of the operation in Roj Camp in the east of Dêrik in Cizire Canton. The statement, read in Arabic by Awaz Welat, one of the commanders of Internal Security Forces, and in Kurdish by Bêrî Omer, said the following:

"In light of the security developments and repeated attacks witnessed in the region in general, and North-East Syria in particular, the ISIS terrorist cells have exploited this circumstance in an attempt to reorganize their ranks and implement criminal plans aimed at undermining security and stability. Our forces have monitored dangerous movements by these cells, particularly towards camps housing families of ISIS members, most notably the Roj camp.

Over the past few months, the camp has witnessed several attempts by ISIS cells to infiltrate and threaten the lives of its residents. These cells have cold-bloodedly killed a woman and a child, assaulted several other women and children, and threatened those trying to rid themselves of the extremist ideology. These actions are part of ISIS' ongoing efforts to activate its sleeper cells inside and outside the camp.

In the face of these threats, our forces have carried out several operations that have thwarted a number of terrorist plots and inflicted heavy losses on ISIS cells in their attempts to sow chaos and destabilize security.

Based on our responsibility to protect our people and our firm commitment to combating terrorism, we announce the launch of a special security campaign against ISIS cells by women's forces within our security and military forces with the support of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ).

This campaign is a continuation of our ongoing struggle against all ISIS terrorist attempts and an embodiment of our firm determination to dry up the sources of terrorism and ensure security and stability for all components of our society.

We, the Women's Unit of Internal Security Forces, affirm that this campaign will not cease until the last terrorist cell threatening the lives of innocents is eradicated. Protecting our people and establishing security will remain our priority.”
