Left Party MPs Nadia Awad and Håkan Svenneling shared a video message, urging the end of the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan and supporting the Kurdish people’s right to freedom.
"We will succeed together"
Nadia Awad, Left Party MP from Örebro, said that they are demanding Turkey to end the 26-year isolation imposed on Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan. "We call on Sweden to take action and make an impact internationally to bring the isolation to an end. Such practices are unacceptable."
Nadia Awad added: "Sweden continues to cooperate with NATO ally Turkey, despite Turkey’s ongoing human rights violations through its attacks on Rojava, while failing to demand an end to the isolation of Mr. Öcalan. This situation has become unacceptable. Turkey’s attacks and the killing of Kurds cannot go unchallenged. We, in the Left Party, are calling for an end to these injustices. The Kurdish people have a right to justice and freedom, and we stand by them in this fight. Together, we will succeed. End Mr. Öcalan’s isolation! Long live the Kurdish people!"
"Our fight against isolation continues"
Swedish Left Party MP and Head of Foreign Relations, Håkan Svenneling, spoke about the "Freedom for Öcalan, Solution for the Kurdish Question" global campaign launched on 10 October 2023, underscoring that ending Öcalan’s isolation is crucial for peace in the Middle East.
He noted his party’s ongoing efforts for political prisoners in Turkey, and said: "Our fight for the freedom of political prisoners will strengthen pressure on Turkey. In this way, political prisoners will be freed, and the isolation of Öcalan will end. We are committed to this fight every day."
