A Turkish court today started hearing of the case against perpetrators of lynch attempt that targeted Kurds in Dortyol a district of Hatay province.
The trial started today with reading of the indictment of prosecutors at 9 a.m. Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputy Sirri Sakik and head of the local branch of BDP in Dortyol Halil Baybaris also attended the first hearing.
BPD presented the video footage of destroyed shops which belongs to Kurds as evidence to the court.
The defendants rejected the allegations and lawyers demanded acquittal of all suspects.
Speaking on behalf of the victims, lawyer Aynur Pinar Acar said the attacks were well organized and should be considered as an organized crime.
"The shops and houses were marked before the attack" she said.
Acar also presented the report of Human Rights Association delegation which visited Dortyol after the attacks.
MP Sakik made a short statement after the trial and said the real perpetrators of the attacks were not brought to justice.
He compared the attacks in Dortyol with the same kind of attacks in Inegol, a district of Bursa province and said "In Turkey the law is used against Kurds and their right to live and safety of private properties".
Turkish nationalists attacked Kurdish shops and houses after 4 Turkish policemen were killed by Kurdish guerillas last July.
The court adjourned until next month.
