Kürkçü: Kurdish movement only opposition to AKP

Speaking at the "September 12 military coup, the AKP government and the democratic union opposition" symposium organized by the 78'ers Initiative, BDP Mersin MP Ertuðrul Kürkçü remarked that the September 12 military coup was a blow for the growing revolutionary movement of that period. Kürkçü noted that today, if one wants to take his/her own back on the coup, it should side shoulder to shoulder with the Kurdish liberation movement which is the single surviving movement since that period.

The symposium’s guest speakers were BDP Mersin MP Ertuðrul Kürkçü and Muþ MP Demir Çelik, EMEP Chair Selma Gürkan, ESP Representative Ziya Ulusoy and ÖDP Vice Chairman Önder Ýþleyen.

Making the first speech, EMEP Chair Selma Gürkan expressed that the September 12 military coup consists of two periods; the first being the period of repression and suppression, the second being the period of creation of the society the state wanted. Gürkan pointed out that the AKP’s base was also formed within that process, marking that the AKP is a child of the September 12 which was created by international powers in Turkey. Gürkan noted that Turkey is playing the role of speaker of these powers in the AKP period.

Speaking after Gürkan, BDP Muþ MP Demir Çelik stated that the AKP is trying to create a new Turkey with its self-made forces on the axis of its hegemonic power. Çelik said; “The system’s course was changed and a hierarchical society was formed with the nation-state system created. And capitalism has renewed itself accordingly. Societies have the power to govern themselves without a state. A new dynamic should be built without the state. The society is waiting for us in this sense”.

ODP Vice Chairman Onder Isleyen also stated that the Turkish left wing should stand arm in arm against the attacks by the AKP and its communities. Isleyen expressed that there is a need to create a common ground at the street with the Kurdish movement whose struggle should be supported more by revolutionary movements that need to strengthen their bases for this purpose.

Speaking after Isleyen, BDP Mersin MP Ertuðrul Kürkçü remarked that the AKP’s cadres took shape from the Turkish-Islamic model created by the September 12 military coup. Kürkçü noted that the AKP represents a government with a bourgeois range of army, police, university, some NGOs. Kürkçü said that the Kurdish freedom movement which is rooted on Kurds is the single power in Turkey to threaten the AKP and the bourgeoisie. Kürkçü also laid emphasis on the importance of the work for he Umbrella Party and said; “The congress movement is to challenge the AKP, it is the ground on which to create the new social opposition. Standing alongside the Kurdish liberation movement is an important step in terms of getting rid of the September 12 regime. A penalty on dictators is a revolution.”
