HPG: Turkish attacks on guerrilla areas continue

The HPG Press Liaison Center (HPG-BIM) reported that attacks by the occupying Turkish army continued despite the ceasefire declared by the PKK on March 1.

Despite a ceasefire declared unilaterally by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the HPG balance sheet for March, the Turkish army carried out a total of 11,585 air and ground attacks against the guerrilla areas in northern Iraq last month.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced that the occupying Turkish army continued to target guerrilla areas.

According to a statement released by the HPG Press Liaison Center on Wednesday, details of the attacks carried out by the invading Turkish army and the response by the guerrilla forces to these attacks are as follows:

More than 1500 attacks in three days

Attacks by warplanes

- On April 14, the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed three times by warplanes. 

Attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers

- On April 13, 14 and 15, the Turkish army carried out a total of 1513 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers, targeting the areas of Berê Zînê and Lolan Resistance Areas in Xakurkê region 79 times; the areas of Girê Reşîd, Dêreşê, Mijê, Girgaşê, Girê Zengil, Heftebax, Zêvkê and Girê Kun in Garê region 287 times; the areas of Girê Amediyê and Girê Bahar in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap 639 times; the areas of Bêşîlî, Serê Metîna and Şêlazê in Metîna region 462 times.

Drone shot down

Interventions by our forces against attacks

- At 11:50 on April 14, a drone set to attack the guerrilla tunnels in Girê Bahar Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was shot down by YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) forces with individual weapons.
