Erdoğan: I have appointed 10 legal experts for the new constitution

AKP President Tayyip Erdoğan announced that he has appointed 10 legal experts for the new constitution.

In a speech at his party's Extended Provincial Chairpersons Meeting in Ankara on Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the start of work on a new constitution.

“We will definitely rid this nation of the shame of the coup constitution. As of yesterday, I have appointed 10 legal experts, who will now begin their work,” Erdoğan said and continued:

"With this work, we will also, God willing, carry out preparations for a new constitution. Over the past 23 years, we have repeatedly demonstrated our good faith in our commitment to crowning our democracy with a new, civilian, and freedom-oriented constitution. However, each time we have been met with the intransigent stance of the opposition. As the People's Alliance, we hope that this time, with the contributions of other parties in Parliament, we will be able to find common ground."

Erdoğan stated that a new phase has been entered with the PKK’s decisions taken at its 12th congress, saying:

"With each new stage, both our hopes and our burdens increase. We believe that this more sensitive and provocation-prone stage will also be completed safe and sound. We emphasize our strong determination for the success of the process at every opportunity. We strive to be constructive, to encourage all parties, and to use language that inspires confidence in all 86 million citizens. We are pleased to observe that the DEM Party, along with other political parties, has adopted a responsible tone on this issue. A constructive political approach is valuable. We do not engage with those who seek for terrorism to continue. We know very well what we are doing with Mr. Bahçeli. We can see that once we achieve the goal of a “terror-free Turkey,” our country will experience a great resurgence in the fields of economy, freedoms, and diplomacy.”
