Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) moved a written parliamentary question about the mass graves in Kurdish provinces to Assembly Presidency asking for Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoðan’s answer.
BDP Diyarbakir MP Akýn Birdal, on the written question he gave to the Assembly Presidency, noted that the consequences of democratic, peaceful solutionlessness of the Kurdish problem causes great destructions in terms of human rights and freedoms, adding; “The most primary among these are torture, extrajudicial execution, unidentified murders and the disappeared”. Birdal pointed out that mass graves have been brought to the agenda again, saying; “The tragedies lived at the “Zilan River” in 1929 and around “Butcher's Creek” in 1989 are still within living memory. The latest findings of the crimes committed against humanity appeared between the years 2003-2005. The bones of 8 civilians in Baðcýlar Village of Diyarbakýr in 2003, and again 11 villagers in Alacaköy Village of Diyarbakýr were exhumed while bones of some civilians were found in excavations in some places in Silopi”.
Birdal listed the mass graves and the numbers of the found bodies as follows; “8 people is Siirt, 30 in Diyarbakir, 5 in Þýrnak, 1 in Urfa, 7 in Mardin, 11 in Batman, 1 in Elazýð, 38 in Bingöl, 18 in Bitlis and 54 corpses in grave houses of Hezbollah at 10 different points in Ýstanbul, Diyarbakýr, Tarsus, Konya, Ankara, Batman, Cizre”.
Birdal addressed the following questions to Prime Minister Erdoðan ; “What do you think about the opening of the locations claimed to be mass graves? Will an investigation be launched against the offenders of discovered Mass Graves? Will there be an attempt to restart the mass graves whose openings were suspended? Will a DNA data bank be constituted to determine whom the bones found in mass graves belong to? Is there any intention to establish a Truths Research Commission that will bring out this process into the open from beginning to end and result in a face-off? Will you accept the position of International Criminal Court (ICC) that prevents prescription in this kind of crimes and enables the trial of perpetrators sooner or later?
