Speaking on Roj TV on Tuesady night, PKK executive Cemil Bayik reiterated that the Democratic Autonomy project has nothing to do with the division of the country or the intention to established a second, separated government or state within the borders of the Turkish republic. Bayik said that "who insists on saying that the Democratic Autonomy project will lead to separatism is doing so in bad faith and is using the separatism threat as an excuse not to deal with the real issues the Democratic autonomy project bring to the agenda". Bayik pointed out that the real issues which need to be addressed have to do with "a status for the Kurdish people. A status - added Bayik - which need to be in the Constitution. For the Kurdish people to participate in the drafting of a new Constitution it has to be sstated clearly that the Kurds are to be given a space within the new Constitution".
The PKK executive also pointed out that the status the Kurds are looking for relates to basic individual and collective rights which are still denied to Kurds. Beginning with recognising the very existence of the Kurdish people and ending with the right to mother language education.
Asked to comment over Pkk jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan's latest statement, Bayik said that "it is clear to everyone that president Ocalan has done all in his power to bring this conflict to the stage of a negotiated settlement. He has done even more than was asked from him to bring this conflict to the stage of a search for a peaceful and democratic solution. All the doors - said Bayik - have been shut on his face. For president Ocalan to continue to play his role conditions must changed. He has to be allowed to play his sole in suitable conditions, security wise and health wise".
