Green Left Party Bitlis (Bedlis) candidate Semra Çağlar Gökalp said that she will be the voice of women and prisoners in the Parliament.
Bitlis (Bedlis) has a population of 355,000 people and more than 210,000 voters. In Bitlis, which will elect three deputies in the 14 May elections, the Green Left Party is pretty confident to get the three. Speaking to ANF, Semra Çağlar Gökalp said that the Green Left Party has the highest rate of female candidates with 45 percent. Gökalp said: “I will protect women's achievements and experiences in the Parliament with the strength I derive from our party tradition and the Kurdish women's struggle. I will work to reorganize life and society on the axis of a democratic, ecological and gender free paradigm.”
Co-chairmanship at all levels of politics
Stating that they will bring back the Istanbul Convention against the sexist policies of the AKP government, Gökalp continued: “We will implement co-chairmanship, which is the most important step towards ensuring equal representation in management and decision-making processes, at all levels of politics. We will create academic, cultural, artistic, social, educational and health programs systematically and in line with the needs of the local community in every topic that is needed and demanded throughout life.”
Against violations in prisons
Gökalp underlined the heavy isolation imposed in prison and said: “I believe it is more essential to focus on what should be done effectively to solve the heavy isolation and torture that has been on the agenda of everyone fighting for rights and justice for years. The solution is to abolish unequal and unfair execution laws, and to implement laws protecting human dignity. We will work to pass laws that will ensure torturers are tried before the law.”
