HDP prevented from reaching village of Ilisu

A HDP delegation was prevented from going to the village of Ilisu to make a press conference about the Ilisu Dam.

The HDP said: "The AKP wants to erase 12,000 years of history."

HDP Ecology Commission members, HDP deputy co-chairs, Hişyar Özsoy and Murat Çepni, HDP MPs Ayşe Acar Başaran, Dersim Dağ, Erdal Aydemir, Feleknas Uca, Hüseyin Kaçmaz, Mehmet Tiryaki, Meral Danış Beştaş, Necdet İpekyüz, Nuran Imir, Semra Güzel and Züleyha Gülüm tried to go to the village of Ilısu but was prevented to do so.

State forces prevented deputies to reach the region. HDP deputies made a brief statement at the gendarmerie road bloch while only the deputies were allowed to go to the dam area.

Speaking here, Murat Çepni, HDP Ecology Vice-President, said: "We just had to make the statement here because they said only the deputies could pass through."

He continued: "While we are here to fulfill our responsibility for the history of humanity, the law enforcement agencies should facilitate our press statement, and in fact they are preventing it. In fact, there would be a much larger crowd here. Tomorrow [Sunday] there will be a "Big Jume" in the Tigris waters. But while the law enforcement agency removes all obstacles to the dam-making company, it prevents us from making this press conference. We are protesting from here."
