A forest caught fire in the Çoman district in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The fire service needed several hours to bring the fire under control. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

A ground fire on a hillside above a village settlement burned over several hundred square meters. The fire was immediately put out by residents and the civil defense was alerted, which limited the fire and prevented it from spreading. There was initially no information about any injuries.

The city of Çoman is located about 45 kilometers east of Soran and is administratively part of the Hewlêr (Erbil) governorate.

Temperatures in the region are already almost 40 degrees Celsius at the end of June. Extreme dryness fuels the risk of forest fires. It is not uncommon for green areas in South Kurdistan to be deliberately set on fire by the Turkish army.
