The Ecology Association organized the "Ecological City" workshop at the Amed Metropolitan Municipality Congress and Culture Center. In addition to ecologists, many representatives of civil society organizations attended the workshop. The Yazidis who lost their lives in the 74th genocide were commemorated with a moment of silence at the workshop.
'Ecocide is happening'
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Yüksel Genç, Coordinator of the Socio-Political Field Research Center, said that nature is being destroyed in Kurdistan. Genç said, "The ecological issue is much more global than we think. Our concern is to be able to think about the world we live in together with its people, soil, insects and winds and to recreate it. Especially in the last 10 years, our city has been experiencing a very strong ecocide process."
Genç drew attention to the fact that Kurds have strong solidarity networks, but warned that these solidarity networks have weakened due to the security policies imposed on the Kurdish issue. Genç said: "We did not only say that the women's liberation and ecological paradigm are crucial for the solution to the Kurdish issue. We say that a new world is possible with this paradigm. The work we are proposing will be an example to the world."
