Parliament of Catalonia recognizes the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria

The Parliament of Catalonia, on Wednesday, approved a motion recognizing the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

The Parliament of Catalonia approved on Wednesday a motion recognizing the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

The motion presented by Esquerra Republicana, Junts per Catalunya, En Comun Podemos and Cup, said: “The Parliament of Catalunya recognises the existence of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria based on Democratic Confederalism as a political subject and urges the Catalan institutions to establish institutional relations with this administration.”

The motion also said: “[The Parliament of Catalonia] underlines the potential value of Democratic Confederalism as a peaceful, inclusive, democratic and co-existence for the Middle East based on municipalism, feminism and social environmentalism.

The Parliament of Catalonia calls on the institutions, the civil society and the citizens to promote a solidarity network to participate in the reconstruction of the region through brotherhood with its citizens, both for the material reconstruction and the welcoming – temporary or permanent – of refugees.”

Finally, the motion “urges the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia to create a table of different administrations, civil society and organisations to promote such a solidarity network.”
