Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a detention order for 38 people, citing an investigation targeting the Binevş Culture and Art Association.
As part of the investigation, raids were carried out on Binevş Cultural Center and several houses in Adana, Mardin, Mersin, Van and Amed. So far, 36 people have been taken into custody.
The Mesopotamia Cultural Center (MKM) reacted to the arrests in a written statement in which it said that the “reason for these arrests is the hostile approach towards Kurdish culture and art. As it is known, the intolerance towards the Kurdish culture and art has become apparent with the banning of concerts and theater plays. Artists did not observe these prohibitions and did not hesitate to turn every place into concert venues and stages.”
The MKM condemned the raid and arrests targeting Binevş Cultural Center and said that “these raids and detentions are aimed to illegalize our cultural institutions. We call on all our people to protect their language, culture and art. As Kurdish art workers, we say that repression cannot stop us”.
