Komalên Ciwan calls to expand the march for freedom

Komalên Ciwan Coordination has called on the youth of Kurdistan and Turkey to join the march to Amara, describing it as a path of reclaiming one’s essence and uniting with the truth of Öcalan.

In a written statement, the Coordination of Komalên Ciwan saluted the march of Kurdish youth toward Amara and the participants whose presence gave strength to the march.

Titled 'Let us walk toward the sunrise and attain freedom through a democratic society,' the statement said: "We regard the birth of Abdullah Öcalan—the architect of the epic of freedom that blossomed like spring in Amara, in response to the Kurdish genocide policies that began with Sheikh Said—as our own birth and liberation. As the youth movement inspired by the philosophy of Öcalan, we declare that we will make Öcalan's legendary struggle for freedom the foundation of our own march and fight for freedom.

To understand the truth of Leader Abdullah Öcalan is to understand the reality of Kurdistan and the Kurdish people, who are subjected to both cultural and physical genocide. When Mr. Öcalan emphasizes that he carried out militancy and revolutionary struggle for a people whose name was not even uttered. He is expressing this very truth. In the reality of Kurdistan, the truth of Öcalan is like water to parched land, breath to a people struggling to breathe, and life to a Kurdish identity that the enemy tried to turn into a walking corpse. In this sense, to understand Öcalan is to understand one’s own identity and social being."

The statement added: "With his 53-year-long march for freedom, Mr. Öcalan has carried out a revolution within a revolution—and continues to do so. His greatest revolution has been in the mind and the heart. Society, whose heart was pierced by daggers and whose mind was shackled under the weight of physical and cultural genocide, has pulled out each painful and bleeding dagger and turned it against the enemy. It has shattered the chains of mental slavery and thrown them into the face of the genocidal fascist regime. The truth of Öcalan gives legs to those who cannot walk, voice to those who cannot speak, hope to the hopeless, and turns pain into resistance and struggle. This truth has become the birth and the hope for all those in Kurdistan, the Middle East, and the world who seek their identity, culture, and freedom."

The statement continued: "To understand the reality of Mr. Öcalan is to understand the meaning of freedom—and to understand freedom is to become a society built upon organization. Freedom means being rooted in sociality and building organization around it. Öcalan forms the fabric of our society. The democratic organization of our society is, in essence, the rejuvenation of our society. A rejuvenated society becomes a leading and organized one. In this spirit, the march that began on 1 April under the leadership of patriotic and revolutionary youth, with the slogan 'To free Öcalan through a democratic society,' is a stance of rebellion against slavery and despair—an expression of faith and insistence on a life of freedom. This march is a journey of returning to one’s roots by meeting the truth of Öcalan and recognizing one’s own reality.

It must never be forgotten: the truth of Mr. Öcalan is the essence in which the youth of Kurdistan will find themselves. The more the youth of Kurdistan understand and live with Öcalan, the more they will discover their true selves. It is through Öcalan that the youth of Kurdistan came to know their freedom. It is with him that they gained willpower and spirit. For this reason, the youth of Kurdistan must recognize that the imprisonment of Öcalan within the torture and genocide system of Imralı is the central reason for their struggle. They must embrace the dismantling of the Imralı prison system as their fundamental duty and responsibility, and they must embrace the physical freedom of Mr. Öcalan as the very foundation of their lives and struggle."

Komalên Ciwan Coordination called on "all young people from Kurdistan and Turkey who seek to find their true selves and fight for that essence to join this march and help expand this caravan of freedom. As the Coordination of Komalên Ciwan, we salute this march for freedom and all those whose participation gives it strength."
