Despite a ceasefire declared unilaterally by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the HPG balance sheet for March, the Turkish army carried out a total of 11,585 air and ground attacks against the guerrilla areas in northern Iraq last month.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced that the occupying Turkish army continued to target guerrilla areas.

According to a statement released by the HPG Press Liaison Center on Friday, details of the attacks carried out by the invading Turkish army and the response by the guerrilla forces to these attacks are as follows:

"Attacks by warplanes

On April 15 and 17, the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed twice by warplanes.

Attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers

On April 15, 16, 17 and 18, the Turkish army carried out a total of 627 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers, targeting the areas of Heftebax, Mijê, Dêreşê and Zêvkê in Garê region 131 times; the areas of Girê Amediyê and Girê Bahar in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 439 times; the areas of Serê Metîna and Bêşîlî in Metîna region 57 times.

On April 16 and 17, there was helicopter activity over Girê Bahar Resistance Area and Girê Cûdî Resistance Area.

Interventions by our forces against attacks

At 13:45 on April 17, Şehîd Axîn Mûş Unit targeted a Hedgehog-type armored vehicle which attacked the guerrillas’ positions in Girê Bahar Resistance Area in Şehîd Delil Western Zap region. The military vehicle and the Jammer device on it were struck by a kamikaze drone and destroyed. The action was carried out in response to the intense attacks carried out by the invading Turkish army recently.”
