First children writing contest kicks off in North East Syria

The Jazira Region Cultural Committee launched a contest with the slogan "Today's sapling is tomorrow's tree" within the scope of the "Writers of the Future" project.

Culture is one of the pillar of the Democratic Confederalism model. And the Autonomous Administration of North East Syria is promoting hundreds of initiatives to ensure culture reaches all section of society. It is doing so despite the difficulties of the war and now also of the pandemic.

The Jazira Region Cultural Committee launched a contest with the slogan "Today's sapling is tomorrow's tree" within the scope of the "Writers of the Future" project.

Children between the ages of 10-14 and 14-18 are called to join the competitions aimed at promoting children’ acquisition of the habit of reading books and become writers in the future.

Children can submit their texts in Kurdish and Arabic. The preparatory committee delivered around 40 books of different genres, poems, stories and essays.

The competition consists of three stages. The first phase, which started on August 23, will end on August 30. Children will translate PDFs of the books prepared by the committee.

The committee has delivered the books online due to the coronavirus outbreak.
