Peoples for Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder suffered a heart attack on Tuesday evening and was admitted to the Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul. He underwent emergency surgery there. His condition is described as serious, and the prognosis remains guarded.
The DEM Party issued an official statement on Önder's health: "Our parliamentary group member and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Sırrı Süreyya Önder was taken to the hospital due to a serious heart condition. The attending physicians immediately took the necessary measures. His health is being closely monitored, and the public will be informed of any further developments."
The Turkish Ministry of Health also confirmed the politician's admission and wished him a speedy recovery.
DEM Party co-chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan went to Istanbul.
