Civilian Defense Units-Woman (YPS-Jin) announced its formation in Çolemerg’s Gever district, where residents declared autonomy and continue to resist against the attacks of the Turkish state. YPS Gever units provided protection for the declaration autonomy where the posters of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and Kurdish woman politician Sakine Cansız, massacred in Paris, accompanied by the flags of PKK, KCK and YPJ-Jin decorated the nearby walls.
The ceremony began with the formation of YPS-Jin units and a moment of silence for the martyrs of the on-going revolution. YPS-Jin Gever Command Spokesperson Rozerin Gever spoke after the moment of silence and noted that the Turkish state responded to the legitimate demands of Kurdish people for self-governance with new massacres, arrests and tortures that aim to intimidate Kurdish people and end their resistance.
‘Life will be either free or non-existent’
Gever said that they fully support peoples’ self-governance and YPS-Jin Gever would resist all state attacks. Gever noted that life would be either free or non-existent from now on, and saluted the on-going resistance in Cizir, Sur and Nisebin.
‘We are Kurdish women following Beritans’ tradition of resistance’
Rozerin Gever stated that they would continue their resistance until Kurdistan is liberated and the patriarchal mentality of AKP and the Turkish state is defeated. Gever ended her speech by affirming their determination for freedom and commemorating the sacrifices of Kurdish woman fighters such as Sara, Zilan, Viyan, and Beritan.
YPS-Jin Gever fighters chanted slogans of ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ and ‘Long Live Leader Apo’ at the end of the declaration ceremony.
