Soldiers assault man from Kobanê in AFAD camp

Displaced people from Kobanê protested at the main gate of the state run AFAD camp outside Suruç yesterday after Turkish soldiers assaulted a man in the camp. Troops then attacked the protesters with tear gas.

Displaced people from Kobanê protested at the main gate of the state run AFAD camp outside Suruç yesterday after Turkish soldiers assaulted a man in the camp. Troops then attacked the protesters with tear gas.

Residents of the AFAD tent city have to be checked in and out of the camp, which from the outside resembles a prison camp. Soldiers took a resident of the camp to a side room and beat him, for an as yet unknown reason. The man was taken to the Suruç state hospital, after which
people from Kobanê gathered outside the main gate to the camp and protested at the actions of the soldiers, shouting slogans such as "Long live the Kobanê resistance" and "Long live the YPG/YPJ". The troops responded by firing tear gas at the protesters.
