Self-Defense Forces Center has been opened in Sheik Maksoud neighbourhood of Aleppo on the initiative of the Kurdish people in the city who are continuously being targeted by the attacks and provocations of the AKP-supported gang groups.

The opening ceremony of the Center was held during the celebrations marking the anniversary of the 15 August Initiative.

The ceremony saw large participation of Kurdish, Arab, Turkmen people as well as representatives from TEV-DEM, Yekîtiya Star, YPG and public security (Asayesh) forces.

Speaking at the military ceremony by the Self-Defense Forces following a minute’s silence for the martyrs, YPG Aleppo commander Rêzan Rojhat recalled the history of repression and cruelty suffered by the Kurdish people and drew attention to the importance of the 15 August Initiative which made a major impact on four parts of Kurdistan within a short time.

YPG Commander underlined that today's revolution and resistance in Rojava was a continuation of the spirit and success of 15 August Initiative.

Commenting on the recent developments in the region, Rêzan Rojhat drew attention to the dirty plans recently put into effect by the Turkish state against the Kurdish people, adding; “The Kurdish people will not allow the accomplishment of these plans that aim to trigger a conflict among peoples. Establishment of Self-Defense Forces in Rojava on the basis of unity of all peoples has been the best response against these plans and attacks.”

Speaking after, TEV-DEM executive Mihemed Şêxo stressed that opening of the Self-Defence Forces Centre at the anniversary of 15 August carried a distinct meaning and was an answer to the plans of attacks targeting the region.

Following the speeches, the Centre was opened with a symbolic ceremony, which continued with music and dance performances.
