PYD stated that the Democratic Autonomous Administration, the Social Contract and the democratic solution projects in Rojava, West Kurdistan, were the result of the July 19 revolution.

Democratic Union Party (PYD) Executive Council released a written statement on the 4th anniversary of its establishment, and said that the Democratic Autonomous Administration in Rojava was the result of the July 19 Revolution.

PYD reminded that the peoples of Rojava had decided to govern and defend themselves on July 19, 2012 after the Syrian revolution derailed from its course and transformed into a fight over power. PYD stated that the July 19 revolution had become a necessity when the oppressive Baath regime in Syria and the brutal jihadist gangs began to encircle Rojava.

Recalling Rojava peoples’ struggle against the Syrian regime since 2004, and criticizing the Free Syrian Army’s decision to attack the lands liberated from Baath occupation, PYD stated that three years after the revolution, revolutionary forces were fighting for a democratic Syria on one hand and radical opposition forces were derailing the Syrian revolution and taking the country as hostage on the other hand.

PYD emphasized that both the Baath regime and radical jihadists attacked the historical steps for democracy taken in Rojava, and said that the Kobanê resistance repelled such attacks. The party praised the historic Kobanê resistance for its unparalleled and eye-opening role, and said that the Democratic Autonomous Administration, the Social Contract and the democratic solution projects were the results of the July 19 revolution.

Describing the July 19 revolution as the future of the Middle East and reiterating its plans to establish a Democratic Syria Assembly that would bring together those who seek democracy and unity, PYD attributed all national and democratic gains to the YPG/YPJ resistance, and commemorated all martyrs that sacrificed themselves for a democratic nation on the 4th anniversary of its establishment. PYD ended its statement by promising that it would continue to fight for freedom and an honorable life with all its power.
