Diyarbakır Bar Association Head Tahir Elçi was targeted by an armed attack in the wake of a press release near Four Footed Minaret in Sur district of Amed Saturday noon.

A group of lawyers accompanied Tahir Elçi who got heavily wounded at scene and lost his life after being taken to Selahattin Eyyubi State Hospital. Several other people wounded in the armed attack were also taken to the same hospital.

In the meantime, police fired into the crowd that gathered outside the hospital after the transport of casualties.

While the hospital is surrounded by police forces and armored vehicles, the area is witnessing an intense activity of helicopters.

Lawyers, politicians and representatives of NGOs are flocking to the hospital after the bloody attack by Turkish state forces.
