Lawyer Ercan Kanar has described the murder of Diyarbakır Bar Association Head Tahir Elçi as a planned attack.

Lawyer Ercan Kanar has described the murder of Diyarbakır Bar Association Head Tahir Elçi as a planned attack.

Remarking that the targeting of head of a bar association is related with the AKP's pro-civil war policies, lawyer Kanar said; “This is a heinous murder and brutal state attack that must be treated as a crime against humanity.”

Kanar recalled that Elçi had been prosecuted one month ago for saying “PKK is not a terrorist organsation”, saying that this heinous assassination must be evaluated as a part of the crime against humanity committed in Cizre, Nusaybin and Silvan.

Responding to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's comment that "Murder of Elçi has proved the righteousness of Turkey's commitment to fight against terror", Kanar said the followings; "The President has the biggest responsibility for the current atmosphere which was provoked by him himself. Dragging the country to a civil war, downing the Russian jet, arresting Can Dündar and attacking the people in Silvan, Nusaybin and Cizre are all a practice of Erdoğan's avenge for his failure to become Executive President. The government will now make demagocial statements to cover up its own offence and evade responsibility."

Istanbul Bar Association Head Ümit Kocasakal has also reacted to the murder of Tahir Elçi, which he said is a shocking and unacceptable incident.
