Artillery fires and bombardments by the Turkish military continue to cause wild fires in Kurdistan. While the fire on Mount Bagok in Eskihisar (Marini) village of Mardin's Nusaybin district continues to spread despite the efforts of the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, a new forest fire has erupted on Mount Gabar in Cizre district of Şırnak.
Mardin Metropolitan Municipality has issued an urgent call for help to take the forest fire in Bagok Mountain under control as the efforts and the means of the Mardin and Nusaybin municipalities remain insufficient to fight the whole fire and Turkish state institutions continue ignoring the fires started during the operations of Turkish troops.
Mount Bagok is in Eskihisar (Marini) village, which is located between İdil district of Şırnak and Nusaybin district of Mardin. While the fire is yet be taken under control, executives of Mardin Municipality as well as of DBP Mardin organization are taking part in fire-fighting together with the local people.
The fire is feared to extend over a 70km area as the flames quickly to spread to other areas due to the strong wind.
Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department has issued an urgent call to local people for urgent mobilization for the fight against the fire. The Fire Department stressed that the could reach İdil district of Şırnak in a short time in the event of continuing.
In the meantime, the fire caused by the artillery fires of Turkish troops on Mount Cudi,in Silopi district of Şırnak, also continues growing. Soldiers are not allowing the local people to intervene the fire which is visible even from Cizre district which stands at a distance of 50 km from the scene.
On the other hand, another fire has broken out on Mount Gabar in Cizre due to the mortar fires opened by Turkish troops, while the bombardment launched by Turkish helicopters today noon also started fires at many different points on the mountain.
The scene of the fire remains within the boundaries of a military zone declared by Şırnak governor's office the day before, which doesn't allow or enable any intervention.
