Çarşema Sor celebrated in Shengal

The Êzidî New Year's Day, also called Çarşema Sor or the Red Wednesday, is being celebrated by the people on Mount Shengal.

The Êzidî New Year's Day, also called Çarşema Sor or the Red Wednesday, is being celebrated by the people on Mount Shengal. Charshema Sor, which is regarded as the beginning of the creation story in the Êzidî philosophy, is represented by green, red and yellow colored eggs symbolizing fertility.

KCK Executive Council Member Şengali gave a speech in Çarşema Sor celebrations in Shengal and stated that no force could discourage them. Şengali called for the Êzidîs to come back to their lands.

The celebrations for Çarşema Sor that is holy for Êzidîs have started in Shengal. YJS, YBŞ, YJA STAR, HPG and hundreds of people attended the celebrations.

The Federation Administration, TEV-DEM, Institution for Martyrs’ Families, Êzidîs living in Newroz Camp, the free press and journalists from different backgrounds are also in the celebrations. The people attend the celebrations with their traditional clothes. Several different art circles take their place on the stage as well.

CALL TO RETURN TO THE LANDS

The celebrations started with a minute’s silence for those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and KCK Executive Council Member and Êzidî Assembly Coordination Member Zeki Şengali gave a speech. Şengali mentioned the decree of August 3, 2014 in his speech and also celebrated the holidays for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Şengali stressed the importance of self defense and the organisation of YJS and YBŞ and said no force could discourage them.

KCK Executive Council Member underlined that; “The Êzidî people have risen above the decree, we celebrate holidays in Shengal now. Êzidîs should return to their lands so that we can experience the holidays more freely and together. Çarşema Sor turns into a day of new life with the ideology of the Leadership. The Êzidî people should make their defense systems stronger, they can build the free life better.”
