Members of the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) paid a visit to the family of Deniz Poyraz, who was slaughtered by a fascist assailant in an armed attack against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Izmir Provincial Office on June 17. The TJA delegation joined by HDP MP Feleknas Uca firstly visited the party office in Izmir where they were received by HDP Izmir Deputy Serpil Kemalbay, Izmir Provincial Co-chair Besriye Tekgür and members of Izmir Peace Mothers Assembly.
Speaking at the visit, Peyruze Kurt, member of Peace Mothers Assembly, condemned the attack and vowed to maintain the struggle of Deniz Poyraz.
HDP MP Feleknas Uca said, “We are aware who the assassins and instigators are. The murder of Poyraz is not a coincidence. The heart of our friend Deniz was beating for the peace. The assassins will be brought to account. They will never be able to break the willpower of Kurdish women. The more the attacks increase, the more we will enhance the struggle in response.”
‘We will create the society that Deniz dreamed of”
Likewise, the HDP MP Serpil Kemalbay said, “If all women in Turkey stick together to a common struggle, we can establish a life in which Deniz and any woman are not killed.” Expressing that Peace Mothers and Saturday Mothers have taken a significant role in women’s struggle, Kemalbay continued, “Our mothers, although they lost their relatives, still insist on defending peace. Mother Fehime had said, ‘I wish Deniz’s testimony would conduce towards peace’, although Deniz was torn away from her. We have a willpower to constitute a new life against this patriarchal-militarist mentality. Such a life will be led by the women. We will create the society that Deniz dreamed of. This is what we will be fighting for.”
The delegation put carnations at the scene where Deniz was killed before going to her family’s house in Kadifekale neighbourhood. The visitors were received by mother Fehime Poyraz, father Abdullah Poyraz and family members. The delegation expressed their solidarity and Peace Mothers Assembly members declared Fehime Poyraz a member of their initiative.
