Under the motto "Sê Jinên Azad" (Three Free Women), an event was held in Basel on Sunday on the life and struggle of the three revolutionaries, Sakine Cansız (Sara), Leyla Şaylemez (Ronahî) and Fidan Doğan (Rojbîn) who were murdered in Paris on 9 January 2013. The event at the Kurdish Democratic Community Centre of Basel was very well attended and began with a minute of silence for those murdered.

"The price of freedom is high"

Zozan Serhat of the Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe (TJK-E) then took the floor and said: "Our three friends who fought on the line of Apoism for the freedom of the Kurdish people and Kurdish women have inscribed their names with golden letters in the history of the world women's revolution. The price of freedom is very high. Sakine gave this high price in Amed prison to the torturer Esat Oktay Yıldıran. Today, this struggle continues in Rojava and in the Medya Defense Zones. If it had not been for people like Sakine and Mazlûm, this resistance would not exist today. Rêber Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] has started a process of resistance. In contrast, Sara, Rojbîn and Ronahî were murdered in Paris. After the murder of the three revolutionaries, the then French president promised the Kurdish people to solve the massacre. Until today, there has been no development in this sense. Sakine Cansız was a pioneer for the women's struggle worldwide.

Today, thousands of Saras, thousands of Rojbîns and thousands of Ronahîs have taken up the struggle where they left off. It is our task to make the resistance of these Saras, Rojbîns and Ronahîs visible. We promise we will continue our struggle until the killers of Sara, Rojbîn and Ronahî are exposed."

The speech of Serhat was followed by a talk about the lives and struggles of the three women, and musical contributions by Nûarîn and Gulan. Afterwards, journalist Güler Yıldız recited a poem. The event ended with the slogan: "Sara, Rojbîn, Ronahî - Jin, Jiyan, Azadî."
