The Women's Council of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), after a condolence visit to the family of Deniz Poyraz, renamed the street in Izmir where the Kurdish woman was murdered by a Turkish fascist last week at the HDP headquarters. On the new street sign are the name and a photo of Deniz Poyraz.

The Women's Council also demanded the removal of a tent in front of the HDP building, where a state-organized protest has been taking place for some time. "This tent was put up by the governor of Izmir and the Palace in order to make our party a target," said HDP deputy Serpil Kemalbay. "Our friend Deniz has been murdered by a perpetrator trained in Syria. This tent is a murder tent, we demand that it be taken away. The bullets that hit Deniz were fired at humanity. We name this street after Deniz Poyraz and continue to fight for democracy and peaceful coexistence in Turkey."

After the statement, the women wanted to hold a demonstration and were surrounded by police. The women then blocked the street with a sit-in. Meanwhile, HDP deputy Ayşe Acar Başaran said that the tent was a provocation and blamed the police for the murder of Deniz Poyraz in the building, which was under round-the-clock surveillance. Police attacked the protesting women with tear gas and rubber bullets, who then went to the HDP headquarters chanting slogans.
