On the occasion of the first anniversary of the global campaign ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, a political solution to the Kurdish question’, days of action are organised around the world from 1 to 10 October.
In this context, a group of young internationalist women in Berlin performed a dance inspired by the musical film ‘Destana PKK’ (The Epic of the PKK).
The young women performed the dance to draw attention to the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan for 25 years.
The young women demanding the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan also highlighted patriarchal oppression and the struggle of the Kurdish women's movement.
In their statement, the activists pointed out that a new phase of the Turkish state's assimilation policy is taking place in Northern Kurdistan, with people wearing traditional Kurdish clothes, singing or listening to Kurdish songs being detained on a weekly basis on ‘suspicion of terrorism.’ The activists noted that Kurdish language centres have been raided and arrests have taken place.
“We strongly condemn these attacks and with this artistic action we show our solidarity with Kurdish society and culture,” said one of the activists.
