The Women's Civil Defence Forces raised concern over the isolation of jailed Kurdish Leader Abdullah Öcalan, saying that “an inhuman punishment has been targeting Öcalan for the last 23 years. This must finally end.”
The Women's Civil Defence Forces (Hêzên Parastina Civakî Jin, HPC-Jin) made a press statement at the Free Women's Square in Kobanê to draw attention to the isolation imposed upon Abdullah Öcalan who has been held in Imrali Island Prison near Istanbul since his abduction from Kenya to Turkey as result of an international conspiracy in 1999.
HPC-JIN member Nûrcan Teyfur read out the statement and said the following:
“The Kurdish leader was captured on February 15, 1999, following an international conspiracy and was handed over to the fascist Turkish state.
The founders of this system are international hegemonic powers. Öcalan is not allowed to meet with his lawyers. Hundreds of applications by his lawyers have been turned down by the Turkish authorities with no genuine reasons. His family is also denied the right to meet him.
Our people, the pro-democracy and pro-peace circles should take a stand against his isolation in prison and not remain silent towards it.
An inhuman punishment has been targeting Öcalan for the last 23 years. This must finally end. The Kurdish leader shows humanity the way to freedom. The HPC-Jin defies this cruel and unusual punishment.”
