Two babies from Afrin die in the Berxwedan camp in Shehba

Two babies of protection seekers displaced by the Turkish state from Afrin have died of illness due to poor conditions.

Two babies whose families fled the village of Meydan Ikbis in Afrin due to attacks by the Turkish state and its militias were unable to be treated and died due to poor conditions at the Berxwedan camp. 16-day-old Hemrin Yusif and five-day-old Emina Nur died on 5 April. The babies are said to have died from the lack of necessary medical care.

Rim Qermo of Kurdish Red Crescent Heyva Sor a Kurd stated that they tried to treat the babies with all the means at their disposal, but since there was no medication or medical supplies, they could not save the babies. He called on the international institutions to finally break their silence, to look at the situation of the children from Afrin in Shehba and finally to help with the necessary medical supplies and medicines. Rim Qermo reported that hundreds of children are ill and urgently need medical help.

Due to the attacks of the Turkish military, more than 100,000 people are currently settled in the canton of Shehba. The autonomous self-government of Afrin has built the Berxwedan camp together with the self-government of Shehba. At the moment only Heyva Sor a Kurd helps the displaced people with limited possibilities.
