Italian doctors confirm refugees in Shehba need urgent aid

The Rojava Health Conference underlined need for medical aid for Afrin refugees in Shehba Canton.

Rojava Health Academy representatives, Rojhilatê (Eastern) Kurdistan and European doctors, as well as UPP Member Pietro San Choi and Dr. Sirwan Sine, all attended the second International Health Conference which opened on Thursday at the Aram Tigran Cultural Center in Rimêlan.

Italian doctors, who were prevented by the KDP from crossing the border into Rojava to attend the conference, were able to deliver their speech via Skype from Sulaymaniyah in South Kurdistan.

The doctors, who are in contact with Kurdish Red Crescent Heyva Sor a Kurdistan in Italy expressed their willingness to help the health committees in Rojava.

CSE organization consultant Apollo Rossi said he hoped the conference would be a success and said he was ready to provide help to the Rojava Health Academy.

"We have come together as an organization and discussed how we can help Rojava. We want to learn from you what you need", said Doctor Marino Andolino, adding that they had visited Shehba Canton (where Afrin people have sought shelter) two months ago, noting that the existing health conditions in Shehba are very poor.

After the speeches by the Italian doctors, the annual activity report of the Rojava Health Academy was read and discussed.

The conference participants expressed their views and criticisms about activities, statutes, educational policy, health conditions in Rojava.

The need of an education system responding to the existing conditions in the field of health in Northern Syria was underlined by many participants.
