A Turkish combat drone bombed the city of Qamishlo in the autonomous region of northern and eastern Syria earlier today. According to information from security circles, the target of the attack was a cleared military post of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). One of two missiles dropped by the drone hit an empty building. Images show that a large hole was blown in the roof of the building. No people were injured as a result of the attack.

The vacated SDF post is located near the “Golden Rose” factory, which produces edible oil. The factory is located in the village of Gerbawi, south-west of Qamishlo, just a few minutes' drive from the airport. The factory was opened in January 2021. Since then, drones deployed by the Turkish army have fired projectiles several times in the area surrounding the site, most recently during a wave of airstrikes last winter.

Turkey has been targeting the civilian population, the Autonomous Administration and the military organisations affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the autonomous region of northern and eastern Syria with drones for years. The airspace over Syria is controlled by the USA and Russia. The international community is ignoring the drone terror, which began in June 2020 with the murder of three representatives of the women’s umbrella organisation Kongra Star in Kobanê. According to data from the Rojava Information Centre and the Autonomous Administration, Turkey has already carried out 108 drone attacks in the region this year. At least 28 people have been killed and almost 50 others injured. At the end of May, four SDF members were killed in eight drone attacks in one day and eleven more people were wounded.
