Suad Mistefa: It is not enough to put the killers of my daughter on a sanction list

Suad Mistefa, mother of martyr Hevrîn Khalaf, said it was not enough to include her daughter’s killers on a sanction list because they continue to commit crimes against the Syrian people.

The US Treasury Department has put the top security officials of the Damascus government and the leaders of some armed mercenary organizations, responsible for the massacre of thousands of innocent civilians in Syria, on the sanction list.

Hatim Ebu Şerqa, the leader of the mercenary group called Ahrar al-Sharqiya, who murdered Kurdish politician Hevrin Khalaf (Hevrîn Xelef), was also included in the sanctions list.

Evaluating the sanctions decision of the US, Martyr Hevrin Khalaf's mother, Suad Mistefa, said: “The US could have prevented this inhumane event. The place where Hevrîn fell martyr was only a few kilometres away from the US bases. I have told this to American journalists and lawyers."

Saying that she told US journalists and lawyers that the US sanctions were not enough, Suad Mistefa added: "Newspapers wrote that sanctions were imposed on Turkey and that the people of Turkey and other peoples would suffer greatly, but Erdoğan would not be affected, and in this context, the decision is insufficient."

Suad Mistefa said that the US could prevent massacres, but turned a blind eye to it.

Referring to the inclusion of the mercenary leader, Hatim Ebu Şerqa, on the sanction list, Mistefa said: “There are thousands of people who carry out massacres like Abu Şerqa. I call on the United States and the European Court of Human Rights to try Erdoğan, who committed crimes in the region.”

Mistefa pointed out that the sanctions imposed by the US on individuals were not sufficient and that everyone who supported Erdoğan and these crimes should be tried, and said that Erdoğan murdered politicians because he found support around him.

“Where was the US when Hevrin was murdered?”

Recalling that Martyr Hevrin Khalaf was murdered in front of the eyes of the US and the whole world, Suad Mistefa said: “The decision to impose sanctions on Hatim Ebu Şerqa and others is not credible. Hevrin was murdered in a planned manner, and I believe the United States was aware of this massacre decision. Because they did not follow what happened in the incident, nor did they follow those behind the massacre and those who supported Erdoğan.”

Pointing out that the aim of Erdoğan and his mercenaries was to break the idea and will of free women in the person of Martyr Hevrin Khalaf, Suad Mistefa noted that after the massacre, thousands of women strengthened their struggle against betrayal and conspiracies.

Noting that the aim of the murder of Martyr Hevrin Khalaf was also to undermine the unity and brotherhood of peoples in Northern and Eastern Syria, Suad Mistefa added that she sought justice together with human rights organizations, lawyers and European courts so that criminals are tried and human values are not violated.

“My aim is for Erdoğan to be tried in European courts. Because he is the number one supporter of mercenary groups. My greatest wish is for those who murdered Hevrin Khalaf to be punished.”
