Soldiers open fire on refugees in Siirt, killing two, injuring 12 others

Turkish soldiers shot dead two refugees at a checkpoint in Siirt last night. Twelve other people from Afghanistan and Pakistan were injured.

Members of the Turkish military fired on refugees in the province of Siirt last night. Two people were killed and twelve others were injured. According to Turkish authorities, a truck carrying 84 people from Afghanistan and Pakistan was targeted after allegedly disobeying a warning to stop. The incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. near the town of Beğendik in Pervari district.

While those injured were taken to the hospital in Siirt, the driver was arrested, and the uninjured refugees reportedly fled.

Siirt governor's office claimed that shots were fired from the truck at the checkpoint before security forces responded fire.
