Security forces take control of NDF checkpoints in Qamishlo

Clashes provoked by the regime militia NDF continue in the northeastern Syrian city of Qamishlo. Internal security forces have taken over two more checkpoints and evacuated more civilians.

In Qamishlo, clashes continue between the internal security forces of the autonomous administration (Asayish) and the Difa al-Watani regime militia (also known as the "National Defense Forces" NDF). The fighting continues to be concentrated in the Tai neighborhood located in southern Qamishlo. According to an embedded journalist with the Rojava-based ANHA news agency, the Asayish captured two more checkpoints from the paramilitary regime group on Friday.

According to the report, the checkpoints are located at the Fadel Hassan School east of the district and at the Ibn Sina School. The NDF mercenaries stationed there have been driven out, it said. There has also been an advance in the Khawla Bint Al-Azwar neighborhood.

However, on some roofs of residential buildings the militia has positioned snipers. Civilians have already been shot at several times, and actions to evacuate residents have been taking place since Thursday. Several people were waiting to be escorted out of the district by the Asayish.

Fighting broke out in Qamishlo on Tuesday evening after Difa al-Watani attacked a checkpoint, killing a member of the security forces. On Thursday, two boys, aged ten and fourteen, were seriously injured. The younger of the two succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Two men, aged 30 and 33, were injured in an attack on two homes and were taken to hospital by a team from the Kurdish Red Crescent (Heyva Sor a Kurd). Most recently, a tribal leader was killed by the militia after a de-escalation.
