SDF: Two ISIS mercenaries, one of them a gang leader, were killed

In an operation carried out by the Anti-Terror Units affiliated with the SDF forces in the western region of Deir ez-Zor, 2 ISIS mercenaries were killed and the other was captured.

According to a statement issued by the Press Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Anti-Terror Units (YAT) affiliated with them, carried out an effective operation against ISIS terrorist cells operating in the region.

The statement said that in the operation, 2 ISIS mercenaries, one of whom was a gang leader responsible for assassination groups, were killed, and another one was captured.

The statement added that the ISIS mercenaries, who were waiting to take advantage of the attacks by the armed groups affiliated with the Damascus Government, contacted the attackers in a coordinated manner and activated their cells. The statement said: "In this way, they were attempting to carry out some terrorist attacks and disrupt the peace and security of the region."

The statement underlined that the SDF operation was carried out in the village of Siwêdan El Cizîrê on the banks of the Euphrates River with air support from international coalition forces, and added that "YAT units surrounded the ISIS cell and called on the terrorists to surrender.

However, the terrorists responded by opening fire on the YAT forces. In the ensuing clashes, two ISIS mercenaries, including a prominent one, were neutralized, and one member was captured."

It was also noted that a mobile phone, a pistol, a K47 weapon and some personal documents were seized as a result of the operation. The SDF announced that it will continue to act with determination to ensure security in the region.
