The attack in Hesekê was apparently aimed specifically at Hogir Amed, Serkêş Riha and Hemze Serêkaniyê. They were driving in the Salihiye district east of the city center on Monday evening when their vehicle, marked with the logo of the Association of War Disabled of the SDF, exploded in the middle of the street. According to military and security authorities, the detonation was triggered by a remote-controlled explosive device that had previously been attached to the car.

Hogir Amed, Serkêş Riha and Hemze Serêkaniyê were war disabled. Some of them had been involved for years in the fight against the Islamic State, but also against the Turkish occupation in Northern and Eastern Syria.

Hogir Amed and Serkêş Riha both came from North Kurdistan and, among other things, resisted the Turkish war of aggression in Afrin in 2018. Hemze Serêkaniyê was born in Serêkaniyê, which was the target of an invasion around one and a half years after the Afrin War and has also been occupied by Turkey since then.

The SDF praised its fighters as "great revolutionaries" who dedicated their lives to the freedom of their people. "We will continue to follow on the path our comrades had taken to enable our people to live a safe and free life," said the SDF in a statement.
