Refugees in Girê Spî camp set up vegetable cooperative

60 decares of land was allocated to the newly established cooperative.

The Girê Spî Refugee Camp Administration established a cooperative to grow summer vegetable to meet the needs of the camp residents.

The camp management, which allocated 60 decares of land to the newly established cooperative, started cultivation of vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes, eggplants, watermelons in April.

Families appointed by the management for planting and harvesting started to sell their harvested vegetables at reasonable prices in the shops in the camp.

A refugee named Halid El Hilal told ANHA that they are satisfied with the project developed by the camp management and thus they can buy vegetables at reasonable prices.

Mohammed El Sheikh, co-chair of Girê Spî Migrant Camp, stated that 10 families who are experienced in vegetable farming are working on the project. “Our aim is to meet the economic problems of families and meet the needs of other families with vegetables and fruits at reasonable prices. We will also make preparations for winter agriculture in the coming period.”
