Popular resistance at Tishrin Dam continues with determination on its 17th day

People from Deir ez-Zor, Tabqa and Raqqa took over the vigil to protect the Tishrin Dam from attacks by the occupying Turkish state and allied mercenaries.

Since 8 January, civilians from North-East Syria have been holding a vigil at the Tishrin Dam to protect their territory alongside the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Women's Defense Units (YPJ) who are confronting attacks by the Turkish army and allied mercenaries called the Syrian National Army (SNA).

While residents from the Cizire, Raqqa, Tabqa, and Euphrates Cantons are taking turns in the vigil, the Turkish state and its proxies continue their relentless attacks on the protesters as well as the dam.

Despite the ongoing attacks, the people's resistance continues with great determination and enthusiasm on its 17th day.

Hundreds of citizens from Deir ez-Zor, Tabqa and Raqqa took over the vigil on Thursday. The group included a delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

After reaching the dam, the people were subjected to yet another attack by the occupying Turkish state, killing a civilian and injuring dozens of others.

The Turkish and jihadist occupation forces launched their first attacks on the dam on December 8, 2024, the day of the overthrow of Syrian long-term ruler Bashar al-Assad. The attacks by UCAVs, including “Bayraktar” and “Akıncı,” and combat drones have resulted in the martyrdom of more than 20 civilians and injured over 120 others.
