People of Afrin protest against Turkish invasion in Shehba

People of North and East Syria are increasingly protesting against the Turkish state’s threats to invade the region.

Thousands of people from Afrin, who were displaced after the occupation the city by the Turkish army and allied jihadists last year and took shelter in the neighboring Shehba Canton, have taken to the streets today in protest at the Turkish state’s threats of occupation against northern Syria.

In addition to the photos of the martyrs of Afrin resistance, people carried banners which read “Where are the defenders of peace and freedom?” and “We condemn the silence of the International Coalition”.

The march continued till the building of the Assembly of Martyrs’ Families where a minute of silence in memory of martyrs was observed.

A press statement made on behalf of the crowd called attention to the fight given to end ISIS terror in the region, saying; “The International Coalition and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) played a major role in the defeat of ISIS. Eleven thousand fighters of the SDF were martyred for this cause. They did all this for the unity, integrity, peace and safety of Syria.”

The statement invited the Syrian regime to establish a dialogue with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and highlighted the importance of this act for the defence of Syria’s territorial integrity.
