MSD expresses support for the Conference on Kurdish Unity in Syria

The Syrian Democratic Council welcomes and supports the conference and the ongoing efforts to unify the Kurdish national stance within the framework of an inclusive Syrian project.

The Conference on Kurdish Unity and Common Stance in Syria was held in the city of Qamishlo with the participation of 400 delegates on Saturday.

According to the final declaration, the conference was organized with the goal of establishing a Kurdish consensus on the construction of a new Syria, shaping the future of Syria, and achieving a solution to the Kurdish question following the overthrow on December 8, 2024 of the oppressive regime that trampled on the freedom and dignity of all the peoples of Syria, faiths and communities, devastated the entire Syria and killed and displaced millions of people.

The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) released a statement welcoming and supporting the conference and the ongoing efforts to unify the Kurdish national stance within the framework of an inclusive Syrian project.

The MSD statement includes the following:

"For decades, the Kurds in Syria have embodied the deep suffering and injustice experienced by their people. On their own land, they carried a double burden. Like all Syrians who yearned for freedom and dignity, they endured the oppression of an authoritarian regime. On top of that, they faced ethnic persecution that targeted their very existence and stripped them of their natural right to life.

They faced imprisonment, displacement, and the denial of their most basic rights. Despite these hardships, they stood at the forefront of the struggle for freedom and dignity. The Kurds were among those who made the greatest sacrifices to establish a democratic Syria—one that belongs equally to all its people.

In this national spirit, we warmly welcome the convening of the Conference on Kurdish Unity and Common Stance in Syria. This pivotal moment deserves sincere congratulations. It reflects a strong will to live and a firm determination to move forward. It also embodies the resilience of collective unity, which has endured decades of attempts at marginalization and erasure.

We fully support the ongoing efforts to unify the Kurdish national stance within the framework of an inclusive Syrian project—one that believes the Kurdish cause is neither a sectarian nor a local issue, but an integral part of the broader struggle for freedom and justice being waged by the Syrian people as a whole.

The unification of the Kurdish ranks today is a fundamental pillar in building the broader unity of the Syrian national front. The Kurds have endured the same hardships, struggles, and injustices that have affected the rest of the nation. Now, they are an inseparable part of its journey toward salvation and reconstruction. This path is built on the foundations of freedom, democracy, and pluralism.

The effort to bridge divides and unify the visions and positions among Kurdish powers and actors is essential. It plays a crucial role in strengthening the inclusive Syrian national project. This project aims to embrace all components of the country. It is based on equal rights, genuine partnership, and a shared destiny for all Syrians.

We salute the organizers and participants of this conference. This initiative represents a renewed source of hope for a better future. In this future, the energies of all will be united, and the wills of all will be harmonized. All components of the Syrian people will come together to shape a new national contract. This future will enshrine the values of justice. It will restore dignity to all those who have been oppressed and marginalized. It will lay the foundation for a free, democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria, where all are treated equally, without discrimination."
