MLKP/Kurdistan commander Welat Yıldız died

Welat Yıldız, a commander of the MLKP/Kurdistan Organization, has died. Born in Amed in 1991, the fighter and former political prisoner in Rojava succumbed to cancer at the age of 31.

MLKP/Kurdistan commander Welat Yıldız (party name Serfiraz Nîdal) has passed away. As his organization announced on Sunday, the leading head of the "Şehîd Alişer Deniz" battalion succumbed to cancer two days ago in a hospital in Rojava. "Our friend Serfiraz is no longer with us, but he is immortal. He lives on in our struggle," the statement said.

Welat Yıldız was born in 1991 in the northern Kurdish province of Amed (tr. Diyarbakır). "In his early 20s, he began to write his own history as a communist from Kurdistan. He followed in the footsteps of the rebellious, militant and free fighters of Kurdistan and led a life as a convinced Kurdish patriot and passionate communist," MLKP said.

Welat Yıldız had his first experience of everyday life in Turkish custody on February 15, 2012, the day he was arrested for actions and protests in which he had participated. He served more than two-thirds of the seven-year prison sentence to which he was subsequently sentenced by a Turkish court. He spent his imprisonment in the notorious D-type prison in Diyarbakır. During this time, he participated in various hunger strike movements initiated by the "politicals" to fight for prisoners' rights.

MLKP/Kurdistan writes about the time after imprisonment: "As soon as Serfiraz Nîdal was released from prison, he took up his revolutionary tasks. He devoted himself to work with enthusiasm and deep confidence. Aware that the national and social liberation of Kurdistan are intertwined, he embodied the socialist-patriotic line of MLKP in his revolutionary life. He wanted to reflect MLKP's view that the Kurdish revolution and the national and social liberation of Kurdistan cannot be realized without an armed revolution. He was impatient because he wanted to become an armed fighter of the Kurdish revolution. To this end, he received ideological, political and military training at the Hüseyin Demircioğlu Academy. Soon after, he went to Rojava, the land of revolution. He continued his education as part of the preparation for the armed revolutionary struggle at the Şengül Boran Party School."

Although his heart beat for the mountains of Kurdistan, Welat Yıldız did not hesitate to participate in the defense of the Rojava Revolution and to advance the building of MLKP/Kurdistan structures in the region. His main task was to command the brigade fighting on the front line against occupation and terror and named after the guerrilla commander Alişer Deniz (Hüseyin Akçiçek), who died on Nurhak Mountain in 2017. "Heval Serfiraz was an example to all of us not only with his militancy, determination, resistance and dedication but also with his solidarity nature, spirit of charity and humility. He was a sincere and attentive communist in all his relations - whether with nature or with people. Against the manifold reflections of the male-dominated consciousness in his fields of work and in himself, he always oriented himself to the party line of the women's liberation struggle. Our friend Serfiraz was one of the leading commanders of our struggle for a united, independent, free and socialist Kurdistan. He was the young eagle of our struggle for a free Kurdistan. His ideals and memory are our promise of victory."
