On 14 December 2018, the internationalist revolutionary Bager Nujiyan (Michael Panser) fell as a martyr in the mountains of Kurdistan during a Turkish air raid. The Internationalist Commune of Rojava has today published a video in memory of the fallen internationalist.
The text of the video is as follows:
"My name is Michael Panser. My name in the movement is Bager Nûjiyan, before my name was Xelîl Viyan. I was born on September 1st 1988 in Eastern Germany. My family's economic situation is normal, they love their land, before they were socialist. I have a sister and a brother. I am a middle child. I went to school for 13 years and studied at university for 1 1/2 years.
I got to know the Hevals, the comrades of the movement, in Germany. The situation in Europe and the worldwide situation in our time, the times of capitalism. This was always clear to us and this is how we got to know the comrades of the movement. We got to know the Hevals in Europe and this is also how we came to the mountains. In our search we directly got to know Rêbertî (Abdullah Öcalan) and also the party. We realized that we had always tried hard, but our effort has never been sufficient. Because our situation in Germany is very complicated, and young people are facing big challenges. Young people are having difficulties finding a way for themselves. When I got to know the party, I realised one thing: It is a movement from the Middle East, but this movement has a universal character. The moral and political values, the value of comradeship, also the perspective of the movement on the question of civilisation which it is approaching very broadly. We realised that the way that Rêbertî and the party made clear is a right way and also essential for us. This is how I got to know the party, in an ideological way. I read the books by Abdullah Öcalan. This is also how I decided in the end to join the party. The aim was always to find a solution.
We saw that there is something universal lying in the experience and the way of the PKK. Through that we can overcome a lot that is needed for a solution in Europe. At the same time, the problems are directly connected to each other. When the revolution in Kurdistan and the Middle East is successful, then it also has a direct impact on capitalist modernity in Europe. So our aim was to introduce Democratic Confederalism as a model for a solution, to get to know it better ourselves and to spread it. Actually, we wanted to build bridges. Because the perspective in Europe was very disconnected from the world, especially our own roots in the Middle East which we'd forgotten, and we wanted to rebuild this connection. Because young people are searching for a solution. This was our aim.
I came to the mountains to educate myself. What does "the mountains" actually mean? - First of all, a liberated territory! A place where we can get to. We want to liberate society, we want to change the pre-written destiny of humanity. For that, first of all, we need to understand the problems in our own personality better. We need to overcome the social problems that we embody in our own personality. It is actually a bit like psychoanalysis. We need to get to know ourselves. What traumas do we experience? Because this is actually not something individual but something social and historical. What we can solve in ourselves, we can also find social solutions for. This is exactly the meaning of education. This is education. The mountains are our place. We live here together, and we overcome our problems together. We strengthen ourselves and then, on this basis, we work in society on the basis of our perspective for the future: How do we want to change history?
So we didn't come here because our search is something very special and exceptional. On my way I always met and got to know so many people in society that are searching for the same. This is why I think that the way of the revolution in Kurdistan, the way of becoming PKK, the way of getting to know and understand Rêbertî, is a true way that has been found. Not only for the revolution in the Middle East, but for revolution worldwide.
Especially as a young person - I especially want young people to understand this right, our situation looks very much like a situation of the third world war. We need to understand very well what our role is in this. We need to take over our responsibility and change this situation. We need to find a solution. If we understand this war right, then this can be the last war of humanity. Because with the model of social organisation of Democratic Confederalism humanity can overcome the nation-state dogma and the patriarchial system if we understand this phase of social self-organisation in the right way.
I think the right way for that is to organise ourselves, to become a party, we need to join the ranks of the guerilla and the revolutionary youth organisation. What is youth? Youth means being the vanguard. Young people need to practise this role in a responsible manner.
In this sense, I wish everyone much success!"
